Holm Legend

Charmaine and Bruce Stewart designed and built the Langholm Hotel in 1996 on two erven which were consolidated adjoining the single erf upon which they built the house for their family. Originally the Langholm offered 8 double rooms, 2 twin rooms and a family suite. On moving to another family home in 2004 they left their daughter, a qualified Silwood Kitchen trained Cordon Bleu chef, in the house with her family. Two of the rooms of the house, both en suite, were added to the hotel’s portfolio of rooms to let.

Ibook12005 Nic Adams bought the hotel and took occupation towards the end of April. With the assistance of Jeanette Stewart, who stayed on as Assistant Manager, Nic quickly learnt the intricacies of hands on hotel management. Occupancy rates were around 40% at the time he bought the hotel. After Jeanette moved on to mothering her young family the remainder of the house was extensively renovated and a double room, a luxury room and a luxury suite were added to the Langholm’s portfolio of rooms now totalling sixteen. Many late nights and very long days (some 18 hours long, day after day) set a foundation for the guests staying at the Langholm knowing that their best interests were being looked after and both them and Nic were enjoying the time spent together at the Langholm. Special theme evenings – curry nights, braai nights and watching sport on TV over weekends etc. - became really popular. In 2008 the occupancy rate reached a level of 90,2% for the year and peaked at 92,7% in 2009. Today we can boast that well over 80% of the guests staying at the Langholm have stayed with us before. A gourmet a la carte dinner service is also offered to each Sunday thru Thursday evening to our guests to ensure that dinner is available to those who wish to spoil themselves with a wonderful meal without having to venture out at night.

As a result of our attention to detail being a passion the comfortable rooms at the Langholm have been redecorated, repainted, been decked out with new bedding, new curtaining and new linen and the bathrooms have also received a facelift every now and then, as occupancy levels have allowed. This has ensured that we have maintained our focus on taking care of our core business and we are committed to continue doing what we do best, offering a “holm away from home” for our guests.
